In April 2007, CITRA developed an internal competency as part of its consultancy and process assistance activities. In addition to its other activities, CITRA developed Life Cycle Analysis. Initiated in the framework of a collaborative project (Revêbois, labeled by the European Pole of Ceramics and which appealed for funding Region, State and Europe), in which it was used in connection with processes of treatment of surface, this skill is now proposed by CITRA on a more general scale, including LCAs on all surface treatment and coating processes (TRS).

With a specialized engineer recruited initially as part of the Revêbois project and having supported on this subject a Diploma of Technological Research, CITRA thus has today human resources of experience.

What is LCA ?

The acronym LCA, for Life Cycle Analysis, is a resource of analyzing the environmental impacts of a product, process or service. The scope of analysis may be variable according to the needs, by integrating this process, product or service with the upstream and / or downstream chain associated therewith.

The purpose of this analysis, taking into account relevant indicators for the selected scope of analysis, is to be able to determine the impacting stages in terms of energy consumption or raw materials in order to draw up a plan for improvement, or a basis of comparison with other processes with a similar purpose.

Customizable by creating a database specific to a range, a process or a complete industrial site, this methodology help a company to better understand the sources of its energy consumption and to improve the value of its products with low environmental impact. This can lead to economies of scale or targeted communication on efforts made in terms of energy performance.
